And Thats All Folks

Yesterday the attempt made by the Smithtown East girls' tennis team to venture to play-offs was officially denied by Hauppauge High School.

Hauppauge (3-7-1) and Smithtown East (3-7) faced off yesterday in a special one game tie-breaker to see who was going to the division play-offs. The previously 3-6 East tennis team was taking on a lower ranked 2-7-1 Hauppauge team. The East team was favored to win the match-up, but in an upset Hauppauge won 4-3. This will cap off the disappointing season for Smithtown East girls' tennis, whose final total record will be 4-11-1.

Is There a November in Sight?

With only two games left Smithtown East boys' soccer (5-5 in league play) look to get one more win to get themselves into the play-offs. Their next two games will be against teams with 2-0 records in play against Smithtown East.

The first game will be held tonight at 4:00 p.m. at Half Hallow Hills East (5-3-2), who is also looking for a play-off spot. The last time these two teams met was on September 25. Half Hallow Hills East player Patrick Bellero scored the game winning goal in the 67th minute against Smithtown East to make the score 1-0. These two teams will be battling it out tonight in what looks like to be an intense fight of Suffolk Division 3 soccer.

East Loses 33-0

Due to Matt Stopsky still crying in the corner from this weekend's major lose... I'm filling in.

East traveled to West Islip Saturday where they lost 33-0.

Column: 3-1 Dissapointment

After a great 3-0 start, the Smithtown East football team (3-1) dropped an embarrassing loss to Bellport (3-1).

The team came out flat against a tough Bellport team and it showed on the field. The offense could not get anything going while the defense let up three huge plays, leading to a score of 21-0 Bellport.

The game would stay that score for the rest of the game, even though East got within the Bellport 20 several times. This loss was a huge blow to the East team and now they look to come back strong and face the second hardest team in their division, West Islip (4-0). The two teams will square off Saturday at West Islip and may determine just how great East really is.

Column: Don't Mess With This Family!

Over the past month the Smithtown East Football team (3-0) has gotten a lot of criticism. First from fans on how they were a horrible team. But on the first three games, they delivered and quieted the non-believers. Next they faced two schools who looked past them on their schedules, and they delivered with two blowouts. Now the team is being challenged by the powerhouses of Division 2 football. The guys in charge of the Newsday High School sport section all agree that Smithtown East is on a hot streak, but they believe thats all it is, a hot streak. Tomorrow, against one of the best teams in Division 2, Bellport (2-1), Smithtown East looks to show all of Division 2 and the critics, that they are a team to be reckoned with.

This sort of criticism has never really motivated Smithtown East football before. So why does it affect them more this year than ever? One word, family. The critics are attacking their family and the pride that family has. This team has become what Coach Saladino wanted his team to be from the beginning. Last Wednesday the team celebrated their great 3-0 start by eating at Coach Saladino's house (something that rarely any player has ever done). At the dinner I overheard senior Captain Michael Porter talking to senior Captain Michael Walling. They were talking about how this felt like a family party, and how much they were enjoying themselves. Not many teams have the benefit of being this close with the players and the coaches and that is why I believe this team is winning.

The team looks to go 4-0, a goal that everyone wants to reach. So Bellport you better be ready, because we are getting this win!
