Column: Clancy Kicks East Into the Play-offs!

Last Saturday's match-up between West Babylon (3-5) and Smithtown East (5-3) was no disappointment to football fans watching from the stands.

The two teams were battling head-to-head for play-off positions. The winner would attain the #5 seed in the play-offs and face a 6-2 North Babylon team, the loser would have the #8 seed and play the unbeaten Riverhead team.

The game was a battle of defensive juggernauts as both teams were held to a score of 0-0 for all four quarters.

In overtime, West Babylon had the ball first but was shutdown by a proud and hungry Smithtown East defense. Then with the East offense on the field, East went to the 8 yard line to attempt a field goal. The stands went quiet and both teams were on their knees holding hands; praying for a positive outcome for their respected teams. As East kicker Pat Clancy waited for the snap, you could see the fear on his face. But with a single kick everyone in stadium knew the game was over. Smithtown East had beaten West Babylon 3-0 to go the #5 seed in the play-offs!
