East Islip rolls over Smithtown East

Smithtown East Varsity Wrestling is very sore after getting destroyed in their 40-12 loss to East Islip in their season opener. East Islip won 10 of the 13 bouts and showed why they are the #1 team in division 3. The only positive highlights for Smithtown East was senior Kevin Cassidy's 1:49 pin, and senior Ryan Kopiske and junior Dan Reiter's close wins.

The team looks to get back on their feet as they ready themselves for the home opener against West Islip this friday.

Final victory of 2008 gives momentum to Cassidy

As a Smithtown East senior, Kevin Cassidy enters the new year looking to become one thing: a Suffolk county wrestling champion. Cassidy has been one of East's most highly regarded wrestlers for the past four years and now it looks like he might win it all.

During the holiday break, the East wrestling team went to Pennsylvania for a dual-meet tournament against five other teams. Cassidy went 5-0 and pinned every one of his opponents. Cassidy is looking to take this great momentum into the 2009 year.
